Hotel São Jorge Garden is located on the ocean front in Velas. All rooms look out over the ocean towards Pico island and São Jorge coast. This is a comfortable simple Azorean hotel with a large outdoor swimming pool (May-Oct) surrounded by lawn and garden where guests can relax and admire the wonderful ocean views. Although the hotel has no restaurant, the town centre, which has a good choice of restaurants, is easily reached within a 5-minute walk. The hotel does have a breakfast room with nice views of the ocean. Hotel São Jorge Garden has 58 en-suite rooms all with cable TV, hairdryer, mini bar, radio and air conditioning, all of them with private balconies and stunning views.

The island of Sao Jorge is part of Azores' central group and lies 21,6 miles off Graciosa, 11 miles off Pico, 32,4 miles off Terceira and 16,2 miles off Faial. It has an approximate area of 95 sq. miles (246 km2). The island has about 9500 inhabitants. The main municipalities are Velas and Calheta. S. Jorge Island has an indented coastline appearing with an oblong shape. A mountain range forms the back-bone of the island and its highest peak, the Pico da Esperanca at 3455 feet (1053 m), offers great views of the other islands of the central group.
